Let me know what you think!
What’s harder – training for MMA, or Big 10 football?
Ummmm, They are different. I’d say MMA just because I have to do a lot of lactic threshold work (meaning prepare my body to work at an oxygen deficit). In football you work hard for 7 seconds then get a chance to rest. Obviously not the case in MMA. My body is naturally powerful but it isnt naturally capable of highly anaerobic work. Hope some of that made sense!
have you been working on any BJJ or any other types of submissions in case the fight goes to the ground? If so you should post videos up of that because I’m sure the fans would like to see the improvement in ground game
Just wondering how much you are planning on weighing for the fight? And do you know if Kimbo is going to bulk-up more from his last fight at only 212 lbs?
Yo Matt hope the training is going well.
Just wondering what the breakdown of your training is like?
Do you focus predominantly on your stengths ie stand up & takedown defence or is it weighed more in learning the groundgame?
eg 60% stand up 40% ground
Obviously we are not expecting Kimbo to be a Ju Jitsu ninja lol
Go for it dude

TUF10 – I have spent a considerable amount of time on the ground since the show ended but to be honest I am rather hesitant to put them up since how I move and work on the ground is still a mystery to most. Kind of the same thing for my stand up game. I have been working on 3 main points and I prefer to keep them to myself until time to unveil them. Ya dig?
Braden – I am walking at 274 right now but I am just starting to focus on camp so Im sure I’ll lose a small handful of lbs. Im thinking I’ll come in at 264ish. Kimbo typically walks at 230 so he is probably going to come in right around there.
Matt,
Good luck with whoever the UFC puts in front of you. One question I have is I thought you were training with Pat and Eric over at Marcello Monteiro’s now? I know Lytle is working with them over there again and I thought you were too? If so, I will look forward to seeing you.
Best wishes,
Joe
If you were fighting a Lawrence Central hurdle tomorrow you would win.
Congrats!
Hey Matt looks like your really putting in the work. I’m out of Dan Christison’s gym and am looking foward to get to Indy sometime to train with you guys at Integrated. Good luck against Kimbo. Give ‘em hell brother.
Smithy – Sorry it took me SO long to answer you. As of now I have been 80/20 ground since I will be working primarily stand up in Milwaukee with Coach Roufus.
Joe _ I am currently working at Marcello’s and the coaching is fantastic. I couldn’t be happier with what they have taught me in a few short weeks.
Goodtimes – I would kick the living shit out of those hurdles…..Ya heard!
Corey – Thanks for the comment. When you get a chance to get up here make sure you let me know!
Cheers Matt
After watching you training videos I reckon you would have made a helluva rugby player.
Positionally Im thinking a blindside flanker or number eight.
Dude you could have been an All black!
